I have always been creative. Whether it was filling up countless sketchbooks as a little kid, to creating block prints, elaborate birthday cards and crafts as an adult, I like to respond to the world around me through a creative lens.
Textures, patterns and shapes found in the urban fabric, to wide open ocean-filled expanses in nature help fuel my creative spirit. Travel and living in different places (so far in Ottawa, Kingston, Montreal and Toronto in Canada, New York City, Providence and San Diego in the US, and Florence and Bologna in Italy) fulfill my desires to not just see a place, but to know it on a deeper level.
Through it all, illustration has been a big part of my artistic expression. The use of line, and the use of colour, together or on their own, is something I like to play with.
Having studied art history and architecture, and having worked in architecture firms for 8 years, has also informed my artistic practice. Whether working on a logo, designing a chair, creating a set of greeting cards, or drawing the world around me, I like to pick up on little details that make a place, space or item, unique.
It is through these details that I strive for connection to, and understanding of, a place, space, feeling or object. This is the stuff that connects us, brings us together, and ushers in some comfort and a little joy to our everyday experience when the world can sometimes feel chaotic and uncertain. It is my hope that you too can find that connection, and that it brings you some joy.
Sometimes it’s just about those little things.
